Excellent Coop game with creative level design that keeps bringing new puzzles and intense levelse different from the one before. Fitting soundtrack and smooth, fun gameplay and controls. Can't really come up with anything bad about this game as flaws are close to none. Would recommend this to anyone who enjoys local coop or platforming in general.. Fun and fast paced game full of challenges that will keep you playing for hours. I absolutely recommend this game if you like easy-to-get-into platformers, couch co-op, and/or games with subtle depth. The most recent update as of this review added Survival mode, which is really six modes (each basically an endless mode with the goal being lasting longer than anyone else, but remaining distinct enough to be different modes). This includes a mode called Twitch, which is a Twitch integrated mode that allows the audience to pick the next obstacles the streamer faces. Survival mode(s) in general each have a scoreboard for those who like to get competitive. The controls are simple enough that they need no explanation, but combine in unexpected ways to provide a seriously high skill ceiling. You can move, jump (variable height based on how long you hold the button), dash (the same button as jump), and burst. That's it. I'll give one example, because discovery of mechanics is part of the fun. You can float if you hold the jump button while in the air, and don't move. If you press a direction before the end of the float duration, you dash. This means you can float in the middle of a laser lattice before dashing vertically to avoid an incoming mortar shot, for example. The learning curve is not steep, at all, but does reach higher difficulty towards the end of Waves (the "campaign" mode) and certainly much faster in Survival. It's a perfect game to spend literally five minutes on at a time, just to make some progress in Waves or see if you can beat your high score in a Survival mode. Or you can play it for hours, provided you can deal with a little frustration (you'll die later on, a lot). It's also a perfect game to ruin friendships with friends, whether in Waves, Survival, or Versus. With promises of more to come, I'm pretty addicted (^playtime) and anticipate great things from Flat Heroes. For its price, it's a serious steal.. I don't normally spend time writing game reviews (I normally spend it playing) but I'll make this just one exception as it is such a wonderfully polished, minimallistic, delicately balanced, challenging, and overall fun game that I just couldn't resist. The game starts off with zero tutorials, and the player needs to discover the controls, what they do, how they respond, etc. After that, levels start going at you one after another as you struggle to complete the objective (which you discover on-the-fly so to speak, just as you jump to the next level) You plough through the roughly first ten levels learning the basic mechanics so that you can finally confront the epic boss. On your way you learn about the arrows, the bomb arrows, the lasers, etc. all moving dynamic obstacles that you, as the player, must avoid. After you've completed your "rite of passage" you get to the boss. And now, the bosses, oh man, you're in for a kick (in the teeth). Much like the entire game, they are designed as geometrical figures, and their behavior is quite intelligent. It is very hard to take them down by just jumping or impacting on them, you need a specific, often non-obvious, strategy. Here the real fun begins, because it becomes a great challenge of trying to find the boss's soft spot, or its patterns, (even it's lack of), and by repeatedly playing the level discover what it's actual Achilles' heel is. After you defeat a boss you move on to the next area and from the on its rinse and repeat in a crazy, very fun, loop. This, of course, you can do on your own or by your loyal squires (aka friends) because it's got up to 4-player coop! So imagine trying to beat those whacky bosses with someone else. The game has been translated to every language on earth, I think only Esperanto and Elvish aren't there, and there are other gameplay modes you unlock that I won't spoil for you. Overall a very fun experience, highly recommended.. Amazing game, usefull to have a good time with friends! (I played with 4 persons). This reminds me of 140. Really fast-paced platformer. Each level is pretty short but there are 15x7 levels and gets exponentially more difficult. That being said, it's less rage-inducing :) Minor temporary freezes whenever the level restarted but other than that, game ran really nicely and was a lot of fun.. Fun game that you could essaly loose a few hours in (like when you are waitung for another game to download) and gets even better if you have friends to play it with you!. So as you can see I have only played 11 minutes of this game, but I feel that is enough to justify this review. Played 41 minutes of this game as the developer has kindly fixed most of the grievences I had with this game. I could possibly have played this game longer if there wasn't so much downtime. I did play for longer without the downtime. Seriously I feel like I am waiting for a level to get ready for longer than I am actually playing it. I can hold the button and the level starts almost instantly now. This sort of game should be does be level loads instantly (why wouldn't it its jsut lines on a screen) you do level, next level loads instantly. No down time, this game is too simple of a premise (further into the game I realised it was as simple as a premise once I got there) to jsutify down time. I feel the only time the menu should show up maybe once every 10 levels. (Evidently it shows up after the 15th level but I hadn't gotten that far) As it is now I launch the game, there is a unity logo, then the developers animated logo (I can't blame the game for this every game does it) then it says to me "you should be playing with a controller are you sure you want to use keyboard? hold space to confirm" and then I hold space it shows me the 3 Dev's names I'm guessing and then it goes to a blank screen and nothing happens. Oh yeah I forgot to mention if I don't have a controller plugged in this game won't evn launch properly. minor detail. So I plug in my steam controlller and restart the game. Get past all the unskippable launch screens and it tells me to hold A to continue. which doesn't work on my steam controller. but really how can I expect an early access basic as hell unity game to allow for a steam controller to work. Ok so go in select stage. stage draws. fairly slowely instantly when I hold space. I have no idea why the animation takes so long, it's completly aisthetic there is no actuall need for it to draw don't care I can skip it. OK here we go. wait no we have a 3 2 1 countdown of course zoom to player. OK time to play move my square across. wait 10 seconds? and the level is over. theres a big tick animation and then I have to hold space to go to the next level for the same level openeing animation to start over. If you die the level starts over instantly, this is how it should always starts. There is just too much downtime for the amount of uninspired uptime the game gets more entreaging as you go. I'm sure the game gets more interesting as it goes along but I have already had too much Yeah it does get more interesting. Thanks devs for reading my review and adressing my nit picky issues. Your game is alright, I guess I'll have to wait till my next local coop night to put it to the real test. I rate this game a "get N++ instead" /10 I don't like giving games an out of 10 rating. I give them an out of 3. 1 means I recommened you don't play this game 3 means go get it, it;s worth the money. 2 means I don't want to enter into your decision on whether or not to get the game, you might like it you might not and unless I know your tastes I cannot be the judge.. A tense, fantastic couch co-op experience, espessially when you're playing with more than 3 people. If you've got some friends and a laptop, this is well worth it.
